Here you are a different activity in Year 5's English class. It is something out of the ordinary, away from our textbooks.
This is an online task where kids have to describe a town of their choice. They share their description on this collaborative wall created with Padlet tool.
Marina is in Year 5B and she loves English. A few days ago she taught me this game to play with our fingers. Can you try it at home? Thank you, Marina!
ToonyTool es una página web donde podéis crear vuestros cómics o historietas de manera muy sencilla y rápida.
Los pasos son los siguientes:
1. Elegimos el fondo (Backgrounds). Podemos utilizar los fondos que nos proporcionan o bien subir una imagen desde nuestro dispositivo.
2. Añadimos los personajes de los proporcionados por la herramienta, o los nuestros a través del botón Browse. Podemos añadir tantos personajes como queramos.
3. Ahora toca añadir los bocadillos (Bubbles) para dar voz a los personajes o establecer el contexto.
4. Props: con esta opción podemos añadir las onomatopeyas que necesitemos u otros elementos decorativos.
5. Por último, si estamos realizando un meme adjuntamos el texto.
Una vez hemos terminado podemos enviarlo por email, imprimirlo, descargarlo,
guardarlo online o compartirlo a través del enlace (direct link) o redes
sociales como Facebook, Twitter y Google+.
Una opción muy interesante es la de HTML ya que nos proporciona el código para incrustarlo en un blog o página web.

Hace unas semanas tuvimos el honor de contar con la visita de Gloria Flores, profesora de español en Shaftesbury School, quien reside en el Reino Unido desde hace unos años y a quien conocí en Villagonzalo en mi primera época de maestro en ese precioso pueblo de nuestra tierra.
A través de las redes sociales habíamos pensado en la posibilidad de realizar actividades conjuntas entre nuestros colegios. A los dos nos agradó mucho la idea así que lo comunicamos a los directores de Shaftesbury School y de nuestro CEIP Maximiliano Macías, quienes se mostraron también entusiasmados con el proyecto.

La manera de trabajar y de organizarnos ha sido completamente virtual, a través de la red. Hemos creado una carpeta colaborativa en Google Drive, un documento de texto colaborativo donde hemos desarrollado las ideas del proyecto y nos hemos comunicado a través de Hangouts y Facebook.
El lunes 8 de junio llegó el gran día. Primero sorteamos de cada equipo qué alumno/a interactuaría con su correspondiente compañero inglés. Los grupos escogieron dos preguntas para realizar en inglés. Preparamos el portátil conectado a la pizarra digital de clase para aprovechar la cámara web y ver a los compañeros del otro lado "en grande", conectamos los altavoces y esperamos la llamada desde Inglaterra.
Al principio todo fueron risas y saludos nerviosos desde ambos lados. Después comenzamos la actividad y, aunque nos costaba un poco entender lo que nos decían, preguntamos y respondimos en inglés y español.
Finalizamos la actividad con la elaboración de un muro colaborativo utilizando la herramienta digital Padlet (como hicimos el Día de la Paz) donde dejamos mensajes sobre nosotros para que nuestros amigos británicos nos conozcan mejor.
Sin duda ha sido una experiencia preciosa y estamos deseando realizar muchas más actividades conjuntas el próximo curso.

In Year 5 we are learning about places in a country (beach, river, mountains...). Our friends Hannah and Rob send us tourist information about the UK coast. We have read about Brighton, Blackpook, the Isle of Man, pebble and sand beaches, and white cliffs too.

In unit 3 we have learnt about unique buildings in the world. The first one is the Malmaison hotel in Oxford, near London. It used to be an old prison. The old cells are now bedrooms for people to sleep. Would you like to stay in this hotel?
Another unique building is the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, on the North of Spain. It has some art galleries inside and there is a statue of a dog outside. It is made of different materials. Enjoy the video!
What about staying in a hotel made of ice? It is possible if you travel to Sweden! The ice hotel has bedrooms, restaurants, etc. made of ice and snow. There isn't a swimming pool.
Finally, what about an spectacular view of the sea from the most luxurius hotel in the world, the 7 star Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai?

Carnival celebration is coming. We will dress up as fairy stories characters. In Year 6 we will dress up as Little Thumb. What do you know about this story?
Hop-o'-My-Thumb (Hop-on-My-Thumb), or Hop o' My Thumb, also known as Little Thumbling, Little Thumb, or Little Poucet, is one of the eight fairytales published by Charles Perrault in Histoires ou Contes du temps passé (1697)
Hop-o'-My-Thumb (le petit Poucet) is the youngest of seven children in a poor woodcutter's family. He is very small but very intelligent. When the children are abandoned by their parents, he manages to save his life and the lives of his brothers. After being threatened and pursued by an ogre, Poucet steals his magic seven-league boots while the monster is sleeping.

On 30th January we celebrated Peace Day at school. In Year 6 we watched two videos and discussed about them.
The first video was about a year in a girl's life and how her life was changed by war. It was filmed by Save the Children organization to make us aware of the big number of children that are suffering from the effects of war in our world.
The second video we watched was the story of Malala, a young girl who fought for peace and education in her country. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. Here is Malala's speech when she received the prize:
